How are cabinets attached in an RV?

How are cabinets installed in campers?

A camper is assembled from the inside out… meaning that interior wall coverings are installed and cabinets glued and bolted through the coverings to the studs. Generally, the bolting of the cabinets is done from the outside-in. And that is why you have a difficult time locating screws or bolts holding your cabinets.

Can you put regular cabinets in a RV?

Standard stock cabinetry may fit. If you have a curved ceiling in your RV, you can make a template to follow the curve and trim the backs of the cabinets to fit. If you don’t mind used cabinets, check on auction sites, swap groups or local sales pages to find cupboards that are still in good shape.

What are RV cabinets made from?

Remember that the cabinets are MDF, so you’ll have to make sure you sand lightly and remove any residue or remaining adhesive. Use a good primer (we like Zinsser) and sand lightly between coats. You’ll probably need more than one coat of primer on the raw MDF. Then you can paint your cabinets with a good quality paint.

How deep are RV kitchen cabinets?

Typical wall cabinets are only 12-inches deep (out from the wall). Widths range from 12-inches up to about 36-inches (in 3-inch increments) and heights range from 12-inches to as high as 42-inches (also in 3-inch increments)!
