A long bed camper can be installed on a short bed truck.
Can I leave my tailgate on with a truck camper?
If you have a TC that fits inside the bed area and you can close the tailgate, I’d leave it on and close it in transit then use it as a deck when parked/camped. The Camper will move while driving down the road. The tailgate is not designed for this. I have a 2004 Travel-lite 800 on a long bed.
Are long beds better for towing?
Yes. All else being equal, the longer the wheelbase, the more stable the towing platform. So for two identical trucks, the long bed version will be more stable than the short bed. If you want to look at physics, you have a longer “Moment Arm” from the back wheels to the front wheels.
What is a short bed pickup?
The standard short bed is what most truck manufacturers mean when they mention a standard bed size. This size is one of the most common types of truck beds found today. A compact standard short bed is usually around five feet long and a full-size standard short bed is about 6.5 feet long.
How heavy of a camper can I put on my truck?
If you remain in the truck, make sure that you subtract your own weight from the total provided. To determine payload capacity, you simply subtract the Curb Weight from the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. The total of 4,212 lbs is the maximum weight that your truck can haul including camper, passengers, and cargo.
